Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everyone! Personally, I had a great day. Probably the best day I’ve had in months. After the crippling loneliness and boredom of living in the dorms, I came home for Spring Break exactly a week ago, only to immediately come down with some sort of 24-hour flu that morphed into my first ever sinus infection. I’ve spent the past week miserable, holed up in my bedroom, knitting and writing and watching YouTube and wasting away for lack of hugs. (I have a weirdly high Need-For-Touch. If you’ve read my books, you’ve probably picked up on that. Hugs are practically a plot device.)
But all that changed today! I shoved some Kleenexes in my pockets, put on a nice shirt and a bit of makeup, and went with my family to the Dallas World Aquarium. One of my good friends, who lives south of Dallas, met us there. We spent four wonderful hours looking at manatees, flamingos, sharks, and cool birds. There were tiny songbirds about the size of a teaspoon. There was an eagle in the rafters that probably had a wingspan of at least six feet. There were alligators and axolotls and a single ocelot taking a nap.
For whatever reason, I was happiest on our way home. (It might have had something to do with the spring break crowds that nearly suffocated us the entire time we were in the aquarium.) I felt like a five-year-old. Happy. Carefree. Excited. We’d just done something fun! I’d spent time with some of my favorite people! I’d gotten out of my house for the first time in forever!
This evening was nice, too. There aren’t too many TV shows that my entire family enjoys watching, but NCIS is one of them. I got to get annoyed at Kate (her only personality trait is feminism) and laugh at Tony (while I’m not a fan of his womanizing, he at least has some redeeming qualities, including a sense of humor). Afterwards, I got to show my mom some Weird Al videos. His song “Foil” got my mom to laugh–and it feels weirdly applicable to today’s world.
Anyhow, I know that this is a rather short post. I don’t have much else to say, other than to wish everyone a happy St. Patrick’s Day! I didn’t have the foresight to make my eBooks free on Amazon for today, or I would have. I might have to do a live stream here eventually. My city has a Celtic Festival every year on the weekend after St. Patrick’s Day, and I hope to make it on Saturday. I usually dress up in my partially homemade, historically accurate Viking costume, or else in my plaid. It really depends on the weather. It was in the 70s today, but Texas can change on a dime. Anyway, live streaming part of the event might be a lot of fun.
God bless y’all, dear readers, and don’t forget to Like us on Facebook!
