I’ll bet you never thought you’d be getting a Part 2 to my popcorn story. To recap, a simple decision to eat popcorn while watching a YouTube video led to me accidentally breaking my knitting needles and ordering a new set, along with an electric kettle, on Amazon. (Check out my blog history for the full story.) Well…the story doesn’t stop there.
I got my Amazon package. I was excited, especially for the knitting needles. I opened the package, gazed in beauty at the Knitter’s Pride Karbonz, 2.75 millimeters thick, with steel tips and a carbon fiber body. And I started knitting with them. Holy heck, the experience! I can see why these needles were so expensive. It was like knitting with butter. My crafstman’s soul was ecstatic.
Until I hit a snag, literally. One of the needle tips had a sharp bit on it–so sharp that it was scratching the tips of the other needles. I took to the knitting subreddit, hoping that someone more experienced than me would know what was going on. The general consensus was that my knitting needles had a manufacturing defect, and that they were quite possibly fakes. Amazon, apparently, isn’t the best place to get knitting needles from.
And so, with a heavy heart, I returned the knitting needles. (I kept the electric kettle, though. I think I’ve used it three times this week, and it’s so much nicer than using the microwave.) I did more research. Hobby Lobby and Joann’s, my two local craft stores, didn’t even carry the Karbonz line. Michael’s had them online only, but the size I needed was out of stock. Someone on the knitting subreddit directed me to a website called Hobbii. Lo and behold, they had my Karbonz! I quickly placed an order, throwing in enough a couple skeins of sock yarn because shipping was $10 no matter how much I ordered. The next day, I got an email from Hobbi saying that my order had shipped, and that I’d get an email telling me when my package entered my country.
Turns out, Hobbii is based in Denmark.
My package arrived Monday. The needles are perfect, even if they are Danish. The sock yarn is beautiful. I found a pattern online for some socks with a nice, simple cable. I can’t wait to start making them–which I don’t think I’ll be able to do until this weekend. See, the cuff calls for a different size needle than the main part of the sock, and I have that size at home…just not here at the dorm. I have a slightly larger size here at the dorm that I might be able to get away with using, but I don’t want to screw things up.
Anyway, the popcorn story has finally reached its conclusion. The only part I’m mad about is the fact that Amazon gave me a store credit instead of refunding my $20 back onto my debit card. So, dear readers, my question for you is–should I order a cool book off Amazon, or wait until I get an apartment (hopefully within the next few months) and use my credit on something I’ll need for my new place? Let me know in the comments. God bless you, dear readers, and don’t forget to review us on Amazon!
